PT and Packing

Monday, April 7th, 2014

Greetings!

Well, there’s honestly not much art being made here at the moment. I’ve been going to Physical Therapy for my ankle, and we’ve been packing because we’re moving to a new house.

The PT is great! No, really, it’s great. It kicks my butt, but it’s making me stronger so my ankle can heal better. The elliptical machine is not my friend. I will conquer it… one day. I’m down to wearing the big boot outside of the house only, and the little brace with my tennis shoes at home. I have my follow up after PT doctor’s appointment in a week and a half. Hopefully it will be good news.

As for the packing, we are moving due to me injuring myself on our stairs. The new house will be a single story. The hubby announced last week that he will be very happy to have everything on one floor, after he had to come upstairs for the second time in an hour just to get something he forgot.

I am packing slowly, but surely. I started out packing one box a day, and have gone up to as many as four boxes in one day. We also have some really great big, strong bags which makes packing things like table cloths, dish towels, and hot pads a breeze!

We won’t be moving immediately. The new house needs some renovations. The family room, living room, and master bath shower all need to have their floors raised, The fireplace will need some demolition and renovation, and the flooring will need to be redone everywhere there is not already tile, plus all the little things that need fixed.

Yesterday I started packing my studio, all the knick-nacks that were down there instead of in the curio cabinet are boxed and ready to go. Next up will be the books, then all of the stuff I actually need to make art, just in case I get a commission or feel the need to work on a piece. I still have to wear my big boot to get down all the stairs to the studio, but at least I can get down there to pack.

I have most of the living and dining room packed, and a good portion of the kitchen, too. We only have the rest of the house plus the garage to go through, sort out, and pack. It’s a good thing we have plenty of time to get it all done.

Have a wonderful week!

Ankle Watch 2014 & Getting Projects Finished

Wednesday, February 26th, 2014

Greetings,

Since I last talked about the ankle, I called the Ortho doc back, and I’m glad I did. They now want me to go see the new Ortho Doc (since the one I’ve been seeing is retiring) BEFORE they try to get the insurance company to authorize the MRI. So next week, that appointment is set to happen. We shall see what happens from there.

In other news, I have figured out that I can do one load of laundry every day with out completely ruining myself for the rest of the day. I can also make a quick lunch, put dinner in the over to bake, and most importantly, I can work on my art projects for about half an hour at a time, then I have to elevate the ankle again.

A friend of mine came over a couple days ago and brought everything I need to work on Vented Hats up from the studio for me. She got her workout in, and I got everything I need where I can get to it. She’s absolutely wonderful!

I have a couple of conventions coming up that I will be vending at. We’ll see how it all goes. I have 2 helpers at the first one, then a friend and I are sharing a booth at the second one. We will see how it all shakes out and if the ankle handles any or all of it well. I may have to pack a comfortable camp chair and a pillow so I can elevate it as needed.

Things are getting worked on and worked out as we speak.
Have a wonderful day!

Ortho Update

Thursday, February 20th, 2014

Greetings,

Hubby woke me up and said the Ortho Doc’s office called an wanted to schedule an appointment with another doc and the MRI, but I hadn’t been approved for the MRI, or something. So I called them back. They wanted me to schedule the MRI and the visit with the new Ortho (since the one I’ve been seeing is retiring on the 5th) for after the MRI, without being approved for the MRI yet. I told them a polite “no thank you, we’ll wait until the MRI has been approved by the insurance company.” The scheduler thought that was a good idea. I did get a little more info on what to ask the insurance company should I hear from them. So, after all of that, I’m still in a holding pattern.

Stay tuned,

Less Grounded

Monday, February 10th, 2014

Greetings,

Good news from the Ortho doc. I have a very tiny ligament tear. I don’t need one of those ortho boots, or surgery. Yea! I do need to take it easy for another 2 weeks wile it heals itself up. I can take the stairs, but I have to go slow, and sideways to keep the tear from increasing. I can walk on it regularly, but I need to be very careful with it still. If it swells up, put it up, ice it, wrap it. So, better news than I thought, but still taking it easy.
