Greetings!

As with Part 1, I know this contains enough general information that should help everyone understand how Award Recommendations work, and why certain information is important to include.

Part Two: Filling Out the On Line Awards Recommendation Form (For this example, I am using the information on the Atenveldt form.)

Question 1: Why do we need to fill out ALL of the information?

Person’s SCA Name: So the Crown knows who to give the award to.
Person’s Modern Name: In case there are 2 people who go by the same or similar SCA names. (yes, this has happened)
SCA Member ID: This proves the person is a member of the SCA. If you are not a current member, with a membership number to prove it, then the Crown can NOT give you any awards. Period. (This is not a required field, but if you have this information, it is VERY helpful to the Crown.)

Why this person deserves this award: This box is VERY important, especially if the Crown doesn’t know the person you’re recommending personally. This helps them to know what good stuff their populace has been doing. It not only gives them a base of knowledge about the person, which helps their decision making go much faster, but it also gives them great things to say about people in Court when they are receiving their way nifty award they so richly deserve.

Your SCA Name, Your Modern Name, Your Email Address and Your Phone Number: You should always fill in your contact information, for a couple of reasons. The first is purely social and less important, you should not be shy about openly supporting someone/anyone for an award. The second is purely practical and very important, if the Crown has a question about the person you’re recommending, they can contact you to get that information.

Don’t forget to click the SUBMIT button at the bottom of the page or your recommendation will not go through.

Question 2: When should we put in Award Recommendations?

Put in your Award Recommendations early in the beginning of each Reign. Each Crown has their own process and time line for getting the Kingdom Scribe the names for awards they want to give during Their reigns. However, it is imperative that they get them to the Kingdom Scribe with enough time for them to assign scribes to make the scrolls and get them completed, scanned (for posting to Photobucket or the Kingdom Web Site), and to the Crown to give at the event.

When Your Crown is Coming to Town:

If your local group is hosting a Kingdom event or an event the Crown has on their Official Progress, please send in recommendations at least 1 month before the event. I know several people have told me they send them in the week before, and that honestly is just not enough time for the scribes to make the scrolls, let alone Their Majesties to decide on the award.

Most Crowns pass on the Award Recommendations for the awards they didn’t give to the next Crown, but some don’t. So, to ensure the new Crown gets the Award Recommendations you put in, you can put the person in every time a new Crown steppes up. I believe there is now a system set in place here in Atenveldt, but I do not know the inner workings of it.

The Entire Populace’s Duty to the Crown:

Remember, the Crown can’t see what everyone in the Kingdom is doing. They all rely on their populace (you and I) to let them know who should have awards and why they should have them. That, Ladies and Gentlemen, is our duty and a great service to the Crown.
